Northern Kyoto

ITADAKI second

It's a small restaurant near the Kinakakuji temple. They have nice Western-Japanese fusion dishes such as pork and chicken cutlet, croquette and hamburger steak etc. Their daily lunch special which is informed on the black board in Japanese (approx. 1000 yen) is very popular. It is crowded in lunch time because there aren't many other good restaurants within walking distance from Kinkakuji temple. Closed on Tuesday. |

Hamac de Paradis

Hamac de Paradis is the cafeteria of Doshisha University, old and very famous university in Kyoto. It's open not only to the students but to anyone. Menus are basic Italian such as pastaand pizza which taste good and price low. You buy a food ticket at the ticket machine and serve yourself.You can ask a university student for any help. They all speak good English.

Southern Kyoto

Kyoto Tower

It is the highest construction in the city, with a total height 131 meters and the observation deck at 100 meters. From the deck, you can enjoy 360 degree view of the city. The tower is based on the nine-story building which includes a hotel, restaurants and souvenir shops.

Musashi

Musashi(むさし), conveyor-belt sushi restaurant was founded in Kyoto in 1977 and has been loved by local people. But these days, they have increasing number of foreign tourists and translated the menu to English. They have four locations in Kyoto city and one at the Kyoto station, and the other at Kawaramachi Sanjo are easy to visit for tourists.

Out-of-City

Taihoan Teahouse

Half an hour on a train to the South of Kyoto City, Taiho-an (対鳳庵), the small house built for the tea ceremony, is located near Byodoin in Uji City. You can enjoy the Japanese green tea served in a stylized manner by a kimono-clad woman. In a Japanese style room, nice green tea is carefully prepared for the each guest, using antique utensils. These things give the opportunity to experience the traditional Japanese culture to foreign people.
